modem configuration question again

sorry but once again i am here with the modem question.
BTW. is there a system to search on archives of Ubuntu mailing list?

well, my question is that i am trying to configure my modem (on ppc G4, 12")
and i am not getting much succes.

I follow the steps on the wiki (how to configure modem) but no luck so far.
So i have some questions:

I set my modem to ttyS1 , does any mac user nows if this is the right 
setting for a G4?

I the wiki says i should select "dinamic DNS", if my provider gives me 
some DNS to use should i introduce this here instead on selecting the 
dinamic option?

After doing everything, i try to connect using modemlights applet, the 
yellow lead blinks but i cannot get any web page, then i try ping some 
ip like 145.2.3.4 or something like that and i get an error saying 
"network unreachable"

Anyone has some suggestions about all this? thanks.

I must i cannot belive that there is no better way to set this up on 
GNU/linux. Ubuntus goal is supposed to avoid exactly this kind of 
situations where dead simple things become obscure and irritating. No 
need to say that until i dont set this up, Ubuntu is useless to me. But 
i keep trying ....
