I experience the same kernel panic when I attempted to install Ubuntu
on RAID (installing on a "small partition", then moving everything
except /boot to the RAID array). I thought it was an issue with /dev
(running the udev) being copied in its "active" state, and udevd
expecting to find something else after reboot. I never found out what
happened, as I decided to start from scratch (and in fact I'm still
sitting with a minimal Ubuntu installation on a small partition
because I don't know enough about grub to be able to figure out
exactly how to proceed (and there are also some issues with the disk
numbering that I cannot fathom)).

So to summarize: Yes, I have experienced the same kernel panic --
but, no, I don't know exactly what caused it, nor how to remedy the
situation.

Cheers,
