Ubuntu and Midi

I tried to run timidity as midi server the way I do in Mandrake 9.2.

The command is

timidity -iA -B2,8 -Os1l -s 44100

as recommended in numerous web sites (search google on
timidity+alsa+midi+server)

In Mandrake, this does open a Midi channel. Here the command fails,
with the message:

ALSA pcm 'default' set buffer size 2832, period size 944 bytes
TiMidity starting in ALSA server mode
ALSA lib seq_hw.c:446:(snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: No
such file or directory
error in snd_seq_open

Any suggestion on what I could do?

Alain
