Wow, I thought he was trying to copy from /media/cdrom/paisley to
dump/blah/blah. I feel like a git for not noticing this right away.

Magnus, the other thing you can do is replace spaces with a backslash
space ("\ "). The backslash is called an escape character and it makes
sure that bash knows the next character is meant to be a space, rather
than an option separator in this case. Escaping works for most symbols
and you'll see it quite a bit if you're still playing with Windows or
have Windows friends.
