this bug is almost two years old and well known,
but canonical as so often never replied.
it is made worse of course through the habit of
ubuntu to keep read-only permissions
when you copy folders from a CD or DVD,
and the fact that there is no GUI tool in ubuntu warty
for the simple task of changing permissions recursively,
meaning for example make the whole folder read and write.
also the trash is not called trash in ubuntu, but "wastebasket".
