Mouse is crazy

Hello list

i am new to ubuntu linux. i just install it. everything worked fine, 
only the mouse is crazy.

if i move the mouse around on the logon screen it is jumping around like 
crazy.
so, i thought my x config is not good and i plaied around with it, but 
no success. then, i booted insert linux (striped down version of 
knoppix) and th mouse was working ok.

now, i copied the x config file from insert linux over to the /etc/X11/ 
of the ubunta install and rebooted. But no success. the mouse is still 
crazy.

what do i am wrong?
