No sound ( for one particular login )

Out of interest, what user do the menu icons run as? I'm having a
problem launching Audacity from a menu where as it runs fine from the
command line. The location it's not finding when launched from the menu
is /dev/dsp, which is owned by the audio group, hence my interest in
this thread and my speculation that the menu command might be run by a
different user instead.
