Anybody any ideas on this one?

I am trying to get a Primax Colorado Direct 9600 scanner running on
Warty. I have downloaded a piece of software called pxscan which is
written for this device, have built it using libtiff4 and it runs...
unfortunately, it does not seem to be able to see the scanner failing thus:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
root at ubuntu:/usr/lib/pxscan-0.41 # pxscan -lon
Probing port 0378
    SPP port present
    PS/2 bidirectional port present
    EPP 1.7

ASIC: FF
scanner model reg= 1f
port_ctrl= C

Can not identify this scanner. code: 1f
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, this could be that my scanner is unwell... I am doing this because
the scanner has failed to work since we installed XP-SP2 on the wife's
PC... so, that could be it... but I'm trying to eliminate all other
possibilities... for instance;

* Is port 0378 the correct port? This is a Toshiba Laptop (Satellite
1100) -- how can I tell?
* Should the device show up on the device manager? If so, what should I
be looking for, as I can't see anything particularly obvious
* Any other ideas?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated :-)

Sean
