fglrx-driver and xorg

I noticed that fglrx-driver depends on server-xfree86, and since I am
running hoary and xorg, I cannot install this.

Do I really have to switch back to XFree86 in order to install the
driver and get direct rendering for my X600, or is there another way?

Hope someone can help me on this. Ubuntu has so far been a real fresh
breath, hope I can continue this newfound "friendship" :-)
