Mouse cursor inverted ?

After restarting my computer this afternoon (connecting it to a UPS
device) I noticed that my mouse pointer had gone a little ugly again
(as if it were in two bit colour depth and looking the same way it did
when it was previously "inverting"). Interestingly, logging out and
back in seemed to cure it, setting it back to the normal pretty
appearance (subtle drop shadow, etc).

That still doesn't suggest any particular answers to me but I'm
recording the observation in case it sparks ideas from anyone else.
