If you just don't want it to boot into 2.6.8 you can just delete the
lines from grub's menu.lst. But if you want you can do an apt-get
remove and see if it complains. Nothing references the source, and the
headers should be clean too but not everyone follows the 'shoulds' at
all.
If it works, why fix it? (Unless you need space I suppose :)
