Hoary gnome-panel boken

I've been running hoary for a while, updating every few days. Todays
update has broken gnome-panel - the panels appear where they normally
would, but are just a grey rectangle that do not respond to any mouse
input.  Additionally, my desktop image doesnt load.

This has happened once before, and an update a few days later fixed it
back up, so the problem may merely be the normal woes of a development
branch.  I'm happy to provide any logs/whatever for the Ubuntu guys if
they're not aware of the issue.
