I'm sorry, I'm entering the conversation extremely late. Have you
looked for errors in your /var/log/XFree86.0.log? How about in
/var/log/messages or any other log files? You sound pretty savvy but I
figure I should ask.

Also, is it just one program or all of them? How about in KDE or Flux
of any other windows manager?
