Hi,

I want your help to make my sound chip work.

I have two problems:
One is that Warty loads the false modules,
and the other problem is that I cannot adjust the
volume slider on the right top of the Gnome screen.
It jumps back to the "-"(minus) position.

I "analysed" my system with Knoppix. It says :

user at antares:$ cat dmesg.knoppix | grep Audio
Intel 810 + AC97 Audio, version 1.01, 04:02:19 Jul 28 2004
i810_audio: Audio Controller supports 6 channels.
ac97_codec: AC97 Audio codec, id: 0x8384:0x7658 (Unknown)

Ubuntu says:

user at antares:$ cat dmesg.ubuntu |grep Audio
user at antares:$ _

Knoppix loads the following modules:

user at antares:$ cat lsmod.knoppix | grep i810
i810_audio 33684 1
ac97_codec 19212 1 i810_audio
soundcore 11232 3 snd,i810_audio
user at antares:$ cat lsmod.knoppix | grep snd
snd_mixer_oss 18688 0
snd 47588 1 snd_mixer_oss
soundcore 11232 3 snd,i810_audio

Ubuntu loads a bunch of other modules:

user at antares:$ lsmod|grep snd
snd_intel8x0 33068 0
snd_ac97_codec 59268 1 snd_intel8x0
snd_pcm_oss 48168 0
snd_mixer_oss 16640 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_pcm 85540 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer 23172 1 snd_pcm
snd_page_alloc 11144 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm
gameport 4736 1 snd_intel8x0
snd_mpu401_uart 7296 1 snd_intel8x0
snd_rawmidi 23232 1 snd_mpu401_uart
snd_seq_device 7944 1 snd_rawmidi
snd 50660 9 snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mpu401_uart,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_device
soundcore 9824 1 snd

So I want to know, how can I load the modules that Knoppix loads? (Because
there I have sound.)
_Important_ : How can I make the modules of Knoppix load
automatically at boot time?
How can I make the volume slider left of the date on right
top of the Gnome screen work? What have I to do that it doesn't
jumps back to the minus "-" position?

Thanks guys.

regards
