which gives you the problem, ... libsword 1.5.7-4 needs to be installed
from debian testing, or I installed it from hoary, and it works just
great on warty.

Thanks . . . yes, that was the problem. When I reinstalled from Debian,
I got libsword 1.5.7-4, and an apt-show-versions note that it is newer
than what is in the archive. Gnomesword runs fine, and I will try
Bibletime after lunch.
