ubuntu's bittorrent & firefox

I installed the supported bittorrent client which includes the python
scripts btdownloadcurses, btdownloadgui & btdownloadheadless.
Works well with bittorrent sites that do not require registration, but
fails on those that do and use browser cookies to identify you as
registered.
The problem seems to lie with the integration into Firefox. When I
click on a torrent file in Firefox I get the familiar dialog asking me
whether I want to launch the default app, or download the torrent file.
No matter which I pick, the OK button is grayed. So I have to either
download the torrent via wget and use it locally, in which case it fails
on sites requiring registration, or pass btdownload* the URL for the
torrent as a parameter.
Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?
