K3b switches down the burning speed

Hi!

I have a BenQ CD/DVD writer that is capable of burning CDs at 40x speed. 
However, every time I try to burn a CD, K3b tells me that my 
burner/medium can't handle a 40x burning speed (I'm sure both are able 
to do that!!) and switches the speed back to 4x. Burning works, but 
waaay too slow.

Nautilus-CD-burner shows the same effect, so I assume it has something 
to do with underlying programs (cdrecord?). Could this be a side effect 
of the 2.6.8.1-kernel-bug? If yes, where can I get a 2.6.9-kernel 
package? Or is there a workaround?
