Brilliant, I must admit that is a correct observation. But that's not 
the point. The point was about improving Ubuntu, and it can't benefit 
from non-free software like Acrobat.

What it can benefit from is a free pdf reader. But as I and some others 
said, gpdf doesn't always show things properly when ggv and xpdf do, and 
it's often slow. I still have no good understanding about what gpdf can 
do what ggv can't.

Can anybody enlighten me?
