Sorry this is a little long (and it doesn't answer your question)...

Along those same lines is this really an improvement? I've been running
Hoary updates nightly on an obviously non-production machine (this
machine is just for playing) and have been thrilled with the
improvements up until just recently and I supposed this message explains
it. I hadn't realized that this update had occurred... Admittedly I
generally just everything right now as I figure that's the real purpose
in helping evaluate and try out Hoary.

As of a day or two ago my machine failed to update and I couldn't seem
to correct the problem so using Synaptic I "thought" I had worked out
the dependency issues until I rebooted and had nothing but my wallpaper
and a command window. I didn't have right-click, or menus, or anything.
I ran Synaptic from the command line and perused the Ubuntu Base section
(or whatever it's called) and tried to install everything that appeared
to be needed like gnome-menu and lots of others. Upon logging out and in
I once again had my desktop, right-click, menus, etc. but there was no
longer access to my "home" folder at all and the menus had moved around
a good bit... I don't like these changes at all and there are still
dependencies (several) that won't resolve... I can't install
gnome-cd-burner at all (as of last night) and several other packages.

So... I'm a bit unsure how to proceed. Since there really isn't any
valuable data on the machine should I just wipe it and reinstall from
the Warty installation CD and wait on Hoary, should I attempt to
downgrade Gnome, or should I just be patient and hope things get cleaned
up over the next several days as new/updates Hoary packages are
released?

Matt
