It looks like they go in the same place.

You should be able to just drop them in fonts:/// - and I just tried
some postscript fonts and they work there as well. For some reason, I
never saw the font appear in the fonts:/// folder, but when I checked
/home/username/.fonts (where the system puts your personal fonts), it
was there and able to be used by programs.
