This looks like bug #2367

Do you both run warty on PPC boxes?

It is fixed in hoary and I have updated packages for warty on
http://people.ubuntulinux.org/~mvo/synaptic/warty/ 

You may want to add:

deb http://people.ubuntulinux.org/~mvo/synaptic/warty/ /

to your sources.list file (or use synaptic to do it) and tell me if it
works then.
