how about using a tool like memcached to get things woking more
efficiently? i'd like to know more about the effect of such an app on
a desktop machine prior to installation, but i am thinking of just
tossing it on and seeing what happens!

at the worst i reinstall and i know that much more about how to break my ubuntu.
