Installing from Knoppix problem

Hello,

I want to install warty on a computer which has no IDE CD-ROMs but 2
SCSI CD-ROMs on a non-bootable SCSI adapter.

So, I first made knoppix bootfloppies, then booted knoppix and
followed the procedure at
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/InstallFromKnoppixHowto

All went fine until I rebooted (after /usr/sbin/base-config new).

Here is what I get as errors when booting:

* Mounting a tmpfs over /dev...         [ok]
* Creating initial device nodes... [ok]
* Cannot find initrd device!

and further down:

* ror : Temporary failure in name resolution

Since I got the second error after ntpdate, I removed it with
update-rc.d and the error has disappeard.

Still, it stops after:
* Setting up ICE socket directory [ok]

I can still reboot with ctrl + alt + del (that's all I managed to do
actually).

Anybody can help?

I've tried to modify some things (using tomrtbt, mount and chroot),
but I couldn't solve it.

ls -l /dev/initrd
brw-rx----      1 root  disk    1, 250 Dec 5 00:03 /dev/initrd

/dev/initrd doesn't exist on my other computer with ubuntu.

Thanks for your time,
