Slightly Different Name Resolution Issue

Hello, this is my first post. Also, I am very thrilled with this distro. I have tried MANY. I'm still somewhat of a newbie.
Anyway, I have installed Ubuntu on a dedicated box. Network settings are configured for DHCP. My Actiontec DSL modem is serving DHCP and doing NAT. My windows boxes don't have this problem.
Problem: unless I specify static DNS addresses in Ubuntu, I can't browse well. Clicking on links that appear in a given page (the default ubutntu start page for instance) don't seem to have any trouble, even if they are linking off the current site. But if I type in an address, say www.yahoo.com or something, it appears to try and resolve, then it comes back and says the connection was refused.
I set up a default network profile, but every time I start Ubuntu, I have to go in and select that profile. My windows boxes seem to pull proper primary and secondary dns.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Paul
