DVD speed issues - hoary

I had to do the following on my laptop.
Edit /etc/hdparm.conf and add:
/dev/hdc {
dma = on
}
Then I moved S07hdparm (in /etc/rcS.d) to S50hdparm.
After a reboot it all worked fine. Any earlier and /dev/hdc isn't found.
