386 to 686 updating

I did something similar: Installing the 686 linux image and then 
removing the 386 old one.
But
I made some mistake:
I had configured my 386 to use the nvidia modules {by apt-get-ting the 
linux restricted modules specific for the 386}. So, when I started in 
686-linux-image, horror! Gnome didn't started! The system couldn't find 
the modules needed!
Fortunately I just had to apt-get the right ones for my kernel and 
install them.

Please, be sure that you don't have set any module specific for the 
kernel you're using. Try by starting using the new one and, if 
everything goes fine, you can get rid of the older :)
