SMP kernel needed

Hello,

  I recently installed Ubuntu GNU/Linux on my box.
  I noticed that only one processor is being detected despite
  my having a hyperthreaded P4.
  How can I get SMP support without breaking sound/video, etc..?
  (meaning, I would like to try to keep all the modules avail
   in the current kernel/configuration).
