Ok here is one for you, probably totally idiotic as I am a total newbie
to Linux at all. I have limited Mandrake experience but this is my
first foray into trying to make a full machine work for more than one
app. I have done the tweaks listed for new user setup, and checked the
posts for java install. I am running the 64-bit version and trying to
get two things to work... If I can do that, I will kill my winbox right
below this computer.

1. Java will NOT work no matter how I try on this... I get the message
accessing one page that tells me "This page contains information of a
type (application/x-java-vm) that can only be viewed with the
appropriate Plug-in. -- this is after having gone through three totally
different procedures and then removing and trying the next one,
including the one listed in the tweak-thread. Everything goes through,
the links made all come up light blue, so seem to be working, but I get
that message EVERY time I try to run that page. I know under Win that
works fine.

2. Wine : I have some old DOS and Windows games I would like to run on
this machine, and I tried the directions for installation on it in the
threads, it tells me that it is either outdated or not there. 

I think if I can get around those two items, I could be very happy with
this build. I do realize that I am totally ignorant on this - been using
computers for 17 years and never went into Linux beyond base installs
and running one app before. I have not before tried to make a serious
machine out of it, and would appreciate whatever help anyone can give
on this :-)
