Switching Video Cards

I have a system running mythbuntu 12.04 working okay. When I play HD video
the CPU sits around 95%, when it hits 100% video stutters.
Well I want to see if VDPAU would help with that. So I bought a GT520 off
amazon and it should arrive tomorrow.
Currently I have an ATI Radeon HD something or other installed and am using
the AMD/ATI Proprietary FGLRX Driver.
So my question is, before I remove the ATI card should I shut off the ATI
driver so I have some video before I switch the card? Is there anything
else I should do as well?
Thanks
