[ubuntu-us-ut] Still a team?

I have been hanging out in the ubuntu-california [1] irc channel today to
help resolve some concerns that have been creeping up since 2 years ago.
While hanging out, I've been very impressed with what they're doing as a
team. I don't know if they're approved or not, but I do know that we're
approved, and I don't know why.
I'm not trying to rock the boat, or stir anyone's feelings. Don't come
after me with pitchforks and torches. I'm just jealous with what the
California team has been doing in their IRC channel today.
Basically, they have an IRC bot that so far has been reporting wiki
changes to the channel. They have this thing called "Ubuntu Hour", where
members do something for an hour, once a week, completely ad-hoc, to
spread the word about Ubuntu [2][3].

They participate in standard Ubuntu stuff like the global bug jam [4],
SCaLE [5] and other events. It seems they're really rocking it. They
have a solid foundation to build from for creating activities that get
everyone involved.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm jealous.
I remember when Christer and I started the US Teams Mentoring Project
[6]. The idea started because Utah, Ohio and Colorado were the only states
that were kicking serious butt. We started colaborating with each other
on what made us successful, and we decided to start a project based
around these ideas. It's still running, and according to pleia2, of
whome I left in charge of the project, things are going well.

Anyway, Ubuntu Utah still feels like my baby. I don't want to see it go
by the wayside, and turn into a standard monthly LUG. There is so much
more we can do. But I think we need to set goals. We need a roadmap.
I'm sure Christer has burned the candle at both ends. After all, he's
working 3 jobs, and raising a family all the while, running an Ubuntu
local community! Christer shouldn't be pulling 100% of the weight. We
should all be doing our part. If each of us gave just 5% of our time.
Hell, an hour or two a week, we'd see this team turn around. I'm sure of
it.
I guess I what I'm saying is: I want to see an active IRC channel. I
want to see an active mailing list. I want to see members, new and old,
come to meetings. I want to see activities involving local businesses,
non-profits, etc. I want to see the team spreading Ubuntu.
I believe in Ubuntu. I believe in our team.
