[ubuntu-us-ut] Many Computers Were Brought Back From The Dead!

Dear Utah Ubuntu LoCo,

Below is the review of our "Bring Back Your Dead Computer Day" that I sent
around to the faculty at Snow regarding our event.  If you don't have time
to read it I can summarize in brief:

41 attempts -- all machines from the community.
36 successes!

It was a pretty darn good day!

Subject: [everyone] Many Computers Were Brought Back From The Dead!


I want to thank all the faculty who stopped me in the hallways yesterday to
ask me how the Bring Your Dead Computer Back To Life Day went.  I'm guessing
a few more of you are curious, so it is with great pleasure that I announce
that the event was a stupendous success.  Participants in the Open Source
Software Club worked on over 40 systems that day and successfully brought
about 36 systems back to life. The few we could not save had serious
problems with hardware that even an Ubuntu restore would not resolve.
 Students and club members eagerly welcomed Sanpete residents in Humanities
122 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and did so with grace and enthusiasm.  I
confess we were almost overwhelmed at one point as we had six stations
restoring desktop PCs and a row of five laptops being worked on all at once!

I have to single out club president Abe Chapman for his valiant and tireless
work that day.  He was at my house picking up monitors at 8:30 am and he
left the event with me at 7:00 pm, after we had cleaned up.  His thirteen
year old brother Jake proved to be essential to the project, as he was the
only one of us who was truly expert at troubleshooting systems that
initially proved difficult to restore. And of course I have to thank each
and every student who showed up and donated his or her time, effort and
energy, making the event not only successful but fun for everyone who
arrived. Morgan's cookies were awesome and universally appreciated!

The final club meeting of the Open Source Software Club is Tuesday, December
1st at 6:00pm in Hum. 144. Disks and instructions for restoring your dead
computer will be available if you were unable to make our event. You can
