9.10 is the first distro to include it.

If it will read a commercially-pressed disc, get a 9.10 disc. The
best method would be to install a command-line system, then sudo
apt-get lubuntu-desktop. I make no guarantees if your old Compaq has
less than 64MB RAM, though.
