I'm just going to weigh in my $0.02 here.  I think if there are sponsors
sponsoring the event, then the event should be free to those who want to
attend.  The sponsors should be shouldering the weight of the financial
burden of the conference.  If attendees are expected to pay to get in,
then sponsors should be non-existent.  I attend the CES convention every
year in Las Vegas, and it's entirely free, minus those who register
late, or wish to attend keynotes.

However, I loved the conference this year, and look forward in attending
next year.
