What you have just done is generate two keys, a public key and a
private one. What I hope you have done is export the public key to the
keyserver.

In order to sign, encrypt, etc. on your laptop you must have the
private key on it, not the public one. So importing from the key
server will not help.

Instead, on the theory that you have done nothing with gpg on your
laptop, simply copy (via a secure method such as scp) the gpg
directories and files from your desktop to your laptop.
