Problems with synaptic touchpad

Matthew Byers: My /etc/X11/xorg.conf is completely flat. There wasn't
anything in there to begin with.

Bob: I know that you are probably quite knowledgeable about ubuntu, and you
might be right. But I can disable the touchpad, and I have done this before
when I've had both a wireless and the touchpad running, and it doesn't seem
to make a difference. Perhaps I didn't get exactly what I should do to fix
it, but I think it is something that can be resolved.
