It could indeed be a hardware problem if you don’t even see a boot logo.

I have nothing on the drive, so I could kill it.  However, I have a feeling this too might be impossible to do without a screen.


When I put the CD in and boot, nothing happens.  The lights on the laptop go on, indicating the laptop is on, but no boot screen or anything.  Does this indicate a hardware problem?

As for killing the drive, it might not hurt as long as there’s no data he needs to keep.

I am NOT suggesting this, but just positing for group consideration: What if Jake ran KillDisk, wiped his hard drive clean, and then inserted the CD? If he doesn't know what a Live CD is, then it sounds like it isn't working. Perhaps he needs another CD?

So, Jake, if you put your CD in, reboot, and then do nothing, what happens? Have you searched for your computer's exact model number in the Ubuntu forums? That should reveal most known problems between your 'puter and Ubuntu.
