In my experience, when money gets tight, the landline goes before the 
cellphone.

I think national numbers would vary greatly based on rural vs. urban on 
dial-up vs. broadband.  Another variation would be age demographics, where 
you will see AOL users clinging to dial-up.  Income may be the least 
significant factor.
