On Saturday the 30th, Backspace is listing two music events that each
have cover charge. One is at 4pm and one is at 9pm. Is the Ubuntu
event happening in between these two events? Has anyone confirmed free
access to the venue from 6:30 to whenever?

Just want to be clear on the details before I add the event to Calagator.
Well, this[1] says 1800 UTC which would be before both of those but I'm
not really confident that is what was intended.
good catch, this was missed before. i just called Alex at Backspace, he says
it's not a problem, and that it'll actually be beneficial for us because they'll
have more tablespace away from the bands. he said there may be a band playing
while we're there (disclaimer), but i got the impression we wouldn't have to pay
the cover if not there for the band... wasn't stated explicitly but that was the
impression i got.
