Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all having a wonderful Holiday Season and I just wanted to
ping everyone and wish them the best and also remind those who may have not
heard that we will have no meeting for the month of December due to the
Holiday Season.

I wan't to provide some quick updates...

== Ubuntu Oregon Meetings ==

Going forward I'm transitioning the Ubuntu Oregon meeting day to the Second
Sunday of Every Month at 7:00PM and additionally to streamline the Agenda I
will ask that all Agenda Items be submitted by the first Sunday of each
month unless they are of an urgent nature. The main reason for changing the
day of the month is it was becoming difficult to get Team Reports done in a
efficient manner with the meeting being end of the month.

== Yahoo Talk in January ==

There is a possibility for a talk at Yahoo at the end of January and as
such if that becomes a reality I do believe all Ubuntu Oregon members will
be welcome to attend. Our Asst. Team Lead Nathan W. is working on the
details of that and I look forward to syncing up and finding out more about
this in the coming weeks.

== LoCo Approval Application ==

I'm hoping that we can begin preparing our application for approval towards
mid-January and it is my hope that we can also continue to move forward by
increasing activity on IRC. I think our physical events have had plenty of
activity in fact the turnouts have often been bigger then some approved
LoCo's in the U.S. as such I do not see any reason why Ubuntu Oregon would
be declined "Approval" by the LoCo Council. I will be reaching out to the
LoCo Council to try and get some sense of what they think about us applying.

== LoCo Library ==
Below are the books we have in our Community Library. I'm hoping at some
point I might be able to talk FreeGeek into allowing us to have a locking
cabinet at their facility to hold our books and other materials... I know
they do this for some groups although it is often difficult to get answers
since they operate as a headless organization.

Head On Python (Check Out by bkerensa)
LPI Linux in a Nutshell
Ubuntu Up & Running
Linux in a Nutshell
The Linux Programming Interface
Ubuntu Hacks
Python - Sysadmins Guide
Official Ubuntu Book
Art of Community (Checked Out by Nathan W)

== LoCo Demo Laptop ==

On Tuesday Evening I accepted a Hardware Grant from FreeGeek on behalf of
Ubuntu Oregon the grant was for a low-end laptop to be used for events we
have a booth at. It is my hope that in the next 12-24 months we will have
two event kits setup which will be rubbermaid tubs filled with the basics
to man a booth at a convention or local community event. I hope that one
kit will eventually be in Salem and as time goes on another in Southern
Oregon.

== Ubuntu Hours ==

So in order to try and get as many Linux folks together especially those
using a Ubuntu or Debian I hope we might consider holding our Ubuntu Hours
in Portland on the Third Thursday of Every Month at the Time & Location
that the Debian Folks gather or before/after. I will hold a vote for this
at our January Meeting.

Anyways since the mailing list has been a bit quiet for the past couple of
weeks... I invite others to share what they are doing for the Holiday
Season and anything they would like to share about Ubuntu that they are
doing? Find a new app? Game?
