upgrading to new 10.04 lts desktop

Hello

New linux user I have 9.04 and trying to upgrade to 10.04 lts. Around
file 732 install aborts. Tried twice. I am afraid to turn off my
computer for the failed install. Last time this happen I had to
reinstall from live cd. Then I upgrade from there to 9.04.

I would like to kick windows (dual boot) to the curb but i have Ipod
with i tunes and tom tom gps. that I cant find support for either. I
have never use IRC chat before. 

My pc is intel quad core , asus p5kc mb and nivia 8600gts video card 4
gb of ram 1066.
