That's a serious issue for those that can't afford broadband or don't
have it available.I know it's funny for those of us that have it to
think about the old dialup days and laugh.Honestly though having web
access is crucial for anyone and if the box is dual boot where ubuntu
is the OS that doesn't have access then it's a no-brainer as to what
they'll choose to boot into.

This topic is sure to raise the ire of people interested in free
hardware specs.Personally I don't know of a single modem that isn't
external that I can be sure would work with linux. In my opinion that's
something that is a barrier for the casual user that isn't interested
in broadband which is a huge untapped market for linux.I know there are
options for those people regarding ISP's but for the most part hardware
wise they are screwed.

How to we go about changing this sort of attitude that hardware
manufacturers have in regards to OS support? I'm all for helping show
them the light and the $$$ by encouraging them to be the first non
winmodem that works right out of the box supplier of hardware.I know
there are companies like linuxant out there that do winmodem stuff but
seriously why can't that work right out of the box?
