Hey Joshua,
My name is Todd Goatley and I live in Reno. I work for the county Library and I'm working very hard to bring open source software to the Library and create a greater amount of use in the county. I can talk to you about the local area and tell you what is happening with the LUG as well as the open source talent we have at the county. Maybe you're the person to get LUG kicked off again. You can reach me at 223-0839.
Cheers
Todd Goatley

Greetings,
As the subject says, I am new to Reno and not really familiar with the
Open Source Software scene here. Can anyone give me a little info?
Does Reno have much of an open source community? Is there a Reno LUG?
Things of that nature.
By the way, I am an Inkscape Developer, so if there is a local LUG or
other forms of Open Source groups, I would be more than happy to do
presentations and Q & A sessions. If there isn't much of an organized
scene at this point, I would be more than happy to work with the
community to see what we could do to build it up!
Cheers,
Josh

Hello Joshua,
I am with the California LoCo. As you can see from the archives there
is very little Ubuntu activity visible on the mail list. There are
quite a few LUGs near me in the San Francisco Bay Area but it's quite
a drive from where you are. The Davis LUG and Sacramento LUG would be
closer but still pretty far. If you are able to make any visits to
the San Francisco region I can introduce you to quite a few LUGs that
are in need of speakers.
Please post to this mail list whatever you are able to find about Reno
region and/or Nevada open source activities. If I can somehow be of
help or if you just want to chat, feel free to email me. You are also
welcome to join the California Team's or other LoCo IRC meetings. We
don't bite. Our next team IRC meeting is in #ubuntu-california on
freenode.net this Sunday at 7 PM PDT. Other US team meetings are
posted on the Fridge's calendar.
Cheers,
Grant Bowman

Hello Nevada,
I just had a great conversation in #lvlug using Freenode IRC and
wanted to follow up and introduce myself. I've been on the
lvlug at lvlug.org mail list since February getting a feel for the
group's activities. While I don't get to Nevada
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NevadaTeam as often as I would like I am
interested in attending a meeting sometime.
As many of you are probably aware, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx is
about to be released on April 29th, 2010. The Long Term Support
versions come every two years. This picture helps explain it better
than words can. http://www.ubuntu.com/products/ubuntu/release-cycle
Many activities take place around each release. Global Jam
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGlobalJam activities just wrapped up and
release party planning is under way.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReleaseParty Ubuntu Open Week is an IRC event
in #ubuntu-classroom on Freenode designed to give people a way to
learn more about Ubuntu and is being planned right now. This will
take place during the week of Mon, May 3 - Fri, May 7, 2010.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOpenWeek
My personal participation focuses on the California Team and local
linux user groups in the San Francisco Bay Area but all Local
Communities (LoCo as Ubuntu calls them) share interests. So I am
pleased to be able to participate here and extend an invitation to
visit our LoCo if you are curious. I have copied this email to our
California mail list. I am happy to participate and do what I can to
help out and support all efforts of the existing Las Vegas team and
those willing and able to step forward in Nevada (and else where) to
organize events, large and small. Planning an event is less difficult
than it sounds. This would be an especially good time to take a look
if you have any interest at all.
Regards,
Grant Bowman
