<div dir="ltr">I agree Zoneminder is the way to go.  Now as to your project as a whole.  It does not sound like to really need to run LDAP.  You could just get away  with SAMBA local authentication if that is all you need.   Next, you state that this server will hold critical data but you don't seem to plan on using any kind of raid for fault tolerance, I'd reconsider this.
