I might play around with zoneminder looks interesting.  I did have one
suggestion,  spent time and be cautious on the camera / cameras you get.
Versions are important and the quality in linux is generally different than
what is claimed for linux.

I use a dsn900 and a orbit and they are ok.  but because the orbit is a
newer version the quality is 1/4th what it does on windows.
