[Ubuntu-US-NM] Got a request to help

I have the 32 bit 7.10 installed, however, I've been working on the wireless and Nvidia for 3 days now and haven't gotten anywhere with it. Seems I can't find the right driver for the wireless. Too many missing links for my understanding. At least I did get the application installed for installing the .ini file for the driver.

I'm stopping for a while or my wife will have my head. :)

I'll do the 32 bit install and give it a try. I spent at least half the day trying to get the wireless going, but I didn't make too much progress. Spent a lot of time reading on various websites, and while playing with the ndiswrapper, I ended up messing something up and having to re-install.

I have the Atheros AR5BXB63. Sorry I'm asking for a lot of help, but if you guys can lead me along, I'd be really grateful to get my wireless going.

At least I feel I'm going to learn a lot.

Thanks,
Mike

I would like to suggest not running the 64 bit version. Move to the 32bit. The reason is that the 64bit is more of a special usage. Compiling, video editing, or running boinc services. Many "toy" applications will not be fully developed for the 64bit platform yet.

With the 32bit the Windows emulator and media tools have been tested more.

I got a request for some help for a person named Michael, his question is this

Hi,

Thanks in advance for the assistance. I currently have Vista on my laptop.

Aspire 5520-5912
AMD Turlon 64x2 Mobile Technology
NVIDIA GeForce 7000M
Signal Up Wireless
160GB HD

I don't want Vista. I just don't like it. I really want to get away from Microsoft and go totally to Linux Ubuntu. I created the CD from the iso file and I checked the install CD and no errors. I'm trying to install the 64 bit version 7.10, but I'm getting the HAL Status 13 message. If anyone needs output like using 'dmesg', let me know how to get this for you for troubleshooting and I will.

Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks again for the assistance.

Any ideas oh Ubuntu gurus?

David Thomas
