If you installed cacti from the repos than the poller should
automatically run every 5min once you've configured cacti to look at any
network SNMP device. If for some reason it does not you can run it from
a cron job.

Example

1. from the command line

sudo -i

2. set nano as your editior

set EDITOR=nano

3. edit roots crontab

crontab -e

4. and add a line to the crontab that looks like....

*/5 * * * * cacti php /var/www/html/cacti/poller.php > /dev/null 2>&1

That said if you installed cacti the web site should be in...

/var/www/html/cacti

So you should be able to point your browser to
http://foo.your.host/cacti/. It should prompt you to log in. Log in as
admin and what ever password you setup durning the install.

I would really STRONGLY recommend that you use the cacti in the repos if
you have not installed it yet. This way as updates roll out your
upgrades should be easy and clean.
