ubuntu-us-nj Trouble w/ Ubuntu and Firefox

I recently upgraded from Firefox stable release (3.6.x) to Firefox Beta 4.
The good: Firefox 4 Beta starts and is ready to use MUCH faster than
Firefox 3 which take a while to be ready.
The bad: I had two problems.
First, I routinely use a web-based CMS, in which I edit HTML code
displayed in a text input field. When I upgraded to Firefox 4 Beta,
suddenly the code didn't appear; the box was empty. The person who runs
the CMS told me he thinks the browser is "somehow inserting a carriage
return / line feed."
Second, when I upgraded a second time from Beta 10 to Beta 11, my
computer (Ubuntu 10.04) suddenly slowed to a crawl and gave me all kinds
of error messages about problematic scripts.
Today I downgraded back to 3.6.x. Both problems went away.
Any ideas?
