Okay ..... Googled and discovered the firewall section (section E) here:

It says, "Make sure your apply predefined rules for ftp, pop3, smtp .... 
if you want to be able to use these services."

Indeed, I do want to use all three of those services.  Other than 
clicking "enabled" what must I do to allow them?  I played around with 
the options but nothing stands out to me.
