Hi, Leland Maurello here... VERY new to the group (a few days ago) and
missed the chat, but caught the archive (thanks Dave!)
I am a local indie computer fixer-upper (small storefront, we don't sell
boxes) and over the past year I've had the opportunity to install Linux on
some otherwise hosed windows 98 PC's. I charge $145 for the installation
(same as reinstalling Windows) so there is a little money in it for me. I
tell people it would cost just as much for me to install Windows, but then
they'd have to pay for Windows TOO - provided it would even run on their
machine. (now that Vistas out, this is a moot point).
I believe in evangelizing other computer shops to have this as an option for
older machines, the only problem is of support.
Is that something LoCo members might consider doing for a bit of consulting
$? I know I would! Can't charge too much but still.
Sorry, long winded... should have made it to the chat group.
Leland Maurello,
