[NH LoCo] Partitioning question

So, it's been many years and I'm slowly dredging up what knowledge I had of
*ux from 15 years ago...so be kind :D

If I copy my /home/usrxyz directory to, say, a thumb drive.

Then install a new version of Ubuntu and partition with a separate
partition for home. Once the install is done can I just copy the /usrxyz to
the new /home partition?

Aren't things like ./usrxyz/.evolution going to be a problem?
